Your wedding day is one of the most important days of your life – what could possibly go wrong? Having hosted weddings at BRIK Venue for over 8 years, we can tell you that wedding day mishaps are common. So if you’re reading this before your wedding day, here are a few things to consider and plan ahead for!
Inclement weather
Bad weather happens no matter what month you get married, especially in Texas! Contingency plans are always a good idea! If your venue allows you to move cocktail hour inside due to heat, cold or rain, have a plan in place. If you know rain is in the forecast, hire a valet service so your guests don’t have to walk in the rain. If you’ve planned for an outdoor ceremony, make sure the venue has an indoor option in case the weather doesn’t cooperate that day.
At BRIK Venue, we understand that things like this could go wrong on your wedding day. Talk with our venue concierge. She can help you problem solve all the options.
Not sticking to the timeline
Good vendors that build in time to the timeline just in case something could go wrong on your wedding day. One way to ensure that the timeline is adhered to is to communicate with your hair and make up team how many people need services. This will help them prepare for the correct amount of team members they will need that morning, and how many hours they will need to complete services.
It’s also a good idea to have a timeline for your bridal party for the morning of the wedding. We’ve seen it happen one too many times – bridesmaids are late to their make up time and groomsmen are late to the venue. The entire timeline gets off schedule. If you’re afraid this could go wrong on your wedding day, hire a car service to get everyone to the venue at the same time to avoid timeline issues.
Catering/staffing issues
You’ve hired your favorite restaurant to cater your wedding, but who serves the food? Cuts the cake? Busses the tables? While restaurants are great options for your dinner service, be sure to ask about these services. You don’t want dinner service to go wrong because this wasn’t discussed. Sure, family and friends could step up and handle it, but you want them to enjoy the reception. Think about hiring a staffing company if your caterer doesn’t offer these services.
Not having a professional wedding planner/coordinator
You’ve planned parties and showers for others, why can’t you possibly plan and execute your wedding day on your own? The MAIN THING we see go wrong at weddings is not having a professional wedding planner/coordinator in charge. Of course you can plan your wedding yourself. But on wedding day, you don’t want you or anyone in your family or wedding party to be responsible for all the details. We have seen caterers not show up, bands only bring 3 members, floral arrangements with the wrong colors. A cake has fallen on the floor, a couple was called the wrong names for their grand entrance, and no one was prepared to light the sparklers at the end of the night.
Having a professional wedding planner/coordinator take over at least 6 weeks before your wedding will take some stress off you, for sure. They can communicate with your vendors and make sure everyone knows their role. Full service wedding planners can even help you with design and vendor selection. If you haven’t considered hiring one, you absolutely should put it into your budget. You will save money by hiring one!
Yes, things could go wrong at your wedding. But don’t forget why you’re there – to marry the love of your life and celebrate with your family and friends! Don’t let anything spoil that.
